Secretly, my preconceptions would tell me, “don’t worry about it, they won’t sell any”. Maybe Senner tuning started losing money, but it would teach the others a lesson.

It hasn’t happened, my old fashioned thinking was thumped by the German tuner’s effort and even though one of their customers sold it back to the car maker, it didn’t last.

Senner Tuning found a new customer for the turbocharged oil burning BMW X6 before anybody was interested in the way the they were making Audi S5 or Audi Q7.

Now, we’d love to take potshots at the way the main rivals at Audi don’t make interesting enough cars to begin with but the truth is not really there.

High powered performance cars that care very little about what you think, how much fuel they use and the way they they go over speed bumps are dying out.

Much like in purchasing new cars, fuel economy is getting in the way and diesels still have the upper hand, by far. Even when it comes to “cool cars” like the BMW X6.

Those bloody Germans, they think they know everything and what’s really annoying is that it seems they’re right. Or maybe we could blame the clients and economic conditions of our time.

Whatever we blab on about, tuned versions of diesel engines are bound to make their way into much more interesting cars (and ruin them).

It’s mostly gone, every major makeover these days is not something the owner of a car talks about but something that hits the internet before its made.

Thankfully, there are still plenty of companies out there that let their customers stand out by themselves. If you don’t want anybody to know about it or you want to tell them yourself, you need to give these guys a look around the shop.

The German customization specialist churns out a new car almost every week but they hardly ever send out press releases.

Take this E60 5 Series tweak, wouldn’t it have been worth our attention? It doesn’t have a simple look and no performance tweaks and it is still important.

This is because the look of the E60 5 Series, probably one of the less impressive looking sedans ever to come from Bavaria is enhanced aesthetically.

New blingy alloy wheels distract from the rather un-proportioned profile. The front and rear bumper is now more of a flaming surface than Bangle ever intended.

There are some bad points though. For instance the owner tried to push the M6 badges on the side air vents. The quad exhausts would have been enough for my liking.

The same applies to the boot lid. Why ruin everything by fitting a huge M badge on something that isn’t from the special ops?

This is certainly the case with this Senner Tuning E91 BMW 3 Series Touring model. It remained in the shadows because it was never a standard package.

In reality, the product in question was built by request for the owner and there was no fuss made about it in terms of media coverage.

That’s not to say the model isn’t worth a second look. First of all, the car looks like one of the best interpretations of an estate you can get.

In keeping with a practical sense nearby, the owner of this BMW estate didn’t bother with the performance upgrades and focused on the sound and look of the car.

He decided to begin by fitting a set of chunky alloy wheels, sporty tires for extra grip and a new exhaust system for extra noise.

The wheels are five-double spoke designs blending chrome with satin black in an incredibly stylish way though that may have a lot to do with the paint of the body.

That dark blue shade, together with the dark tinted windows make for quite the effect. More importantly, the four pipe exhaust is there to make it feel like an M division product.

Obviously, you don’t get the same performance but if the tune is there, you can enjoy your family car when nobody’s around.

In some cases that’s true and it seems that things are getting worse. That direction seems to have spun off with tuner cars built around the same idea…

Senner Tuning have a package for the BMW X6 diesel, the xDrive40d version that seems to be in a very narrow market spot.

Here’s the outset, you want a faster version of the BMW X6 but you still want the inherent fuel economy of a diesel you can always buy the X6 M Performance.

Trouble is, that new tri-turbo seemingly too complicated engine isn’t really cheap. In fact, it’s so expensive it’s only marginally cheaper than the BMW X6M.

Senner Tuning provides a 10 percent increase in the performance of the 3.0 liter straight six cylinder engine without too much damage to the fuel economy.

Having 336 horsepower and 490 lb-ft of torque under the bonnet will certainly make a difference. Just like the new design kit will.

Essentially, Senner Tuning provides a rip-off BMW X6 M lower body kit, a couple of subtle rear spoilers and a set of awesome 22 inch multi-spoke alloys from Hamann.

Really, it’s hard to fault the package, especially when you consider only costs some 35.000 dollars. It’s definitely not cheap but it’s certainly not as expensive as the M Performance version.

Also, since most of the parts are off-the-shelf BMW ones, maintenance and repairs shouldn’t put a dent in the budget either.

Reportedly only some 5703 units of the BMW Z8 were built and sold over the four year period it was on sale. That’s just the tip of the problem.

Of these units, some have certainly been crashed so far (handling may have something to do) and others have already been tuned up by other companies.

With all of this information available and with tuning being a principle of exclusivity, why on earth did somebody at Senner Tuning say, you know what… we should make a kit for the Z8.

It makes absolutely no sense but it doesn’t really matter because it’s happening. Not that I don’t think they won’t make any money on it but Senner Tuning have thankfully kept things simple.

The BMW Z8 gets a new sports air filter, a new exhaust that’s less restrictive and the proverbial ECU remapping. That translates into an output of 450 horsepower and 394 pound-feet of torque from the 5.0 liter V8 engine.

With these new figures the BMW Z8 can get up to a top speed of 186 mph.

Oh and just in case you weren’t known as being insecure that you needed a very rare car tuned up, Senner Tuning will fit new 19 inch Work Schwert SC1 wheels and a coilover suspension and Racing Gold varnished brake calipers.

If you’re interested, the Senner Tuning kit for the BMW Z8 costs some $25.000. Not cheap, but you shouldn’t expect that attribute to really come anywhere near the Z8.
