The extra power was obtained thanks to a sports exhaust system and an aluminum oil pan while a revised six-speed manual transmission adds to the list too.

Thanks to a lot of fiddling, the BMW M235i now develops a respectable 444 Hp and 500 Nm of torque. But exactly what did Tuningwerk do to the Bimmer? Popping the hood will reveal a nice new turbocharger, a complete new cooling system, with radiator, oil cooler and all that good stuff, another heat exchanger, a remapped ECU and a brand new exhaust.

Moving on, we find that the BMW M235i is equipped with a new flywheel for the gear box, Brembo brakes and KW suspensions. The passenger’s hub has new Recaro seats, some stiffening struts and a new steering wheel. The list is not complete by far, but just to make an idea of the build. And to make sure we appreciate the effort, we also have some nice footage of the vehicle.

In the standard form, the BMW M135i is able to produce 355 Hp. After installing a new turbo, the in line six cyclinder engine now produces 445 Hp. To keep the power steady, especially on the bends, Tuningwerk also installed a limited slip differential.

Drive stability was also improved by the addition of triple adjustable KW Clubsport suspension system. The brakes were updated to BMW Performance, with some personal touches from Tuningwerk. For those that went with manual transmission, the aftermarket specialist also offers two choices of flywheels. Depending on your needs, you can shave either 2 kg or 4.5 kg off the part.

Sorry to do this to you guys but I feel that Tuningwerk is attracting us into a void of BMW tuning products, this time up it’s the 1 Series.

The new variation they’ve created is called the NR 1s. It makes no excuses about what it is. The 1 Series used as a base is one of the least loved BMWs out there.

Tuningwerk NR 1s BMW 1 Series

That lackluster situation has set a fire of passion under its bonnet, all of which was unleashed by the German tuner.

The base can be any one of the versions 3.0 liter straight six cylinder engine that goes under the bonnet of anything between the 125i and 135i.

On top of that engine, Tuningwerk have their play and you can opt for twinscroll or Bi-Turbo forced induction and can produce between 237 and 430 horsepower.

Tuningwerk NR 1s BMW 1 Series
Tuningwerk NR 1s BMW 1 Series

Torque can also vary between 214 and 317 lb-ft of torque. This is if you want to keep within the German tradition for efficiency and such.

If you can do without the Technical Control Board certificate for RS-Sport, Tuningwerk can wind the power up to 550 horsepower.

Variety seems to be the main course in 0 to 62 acceleration and top speed as well. The first can vary between 6.1 to 4.2 seconds and the latter can be 147 or 205 mph.

Tuningwerk NR 1s BMW 1 Series
Tuningwerk NR 1s BMW 1 Series

The usual limitations apply, tires and all that boring stuff. What is interesting is that Tuningwerk offers the NR 1s package for diesel powered cars.

No more than 250 horsepower and 346 lb-ft of torque is available there but that’s still a respectable performance figure.

We’ve been having a look at German tuner Tuningwerk‘s work recently and though we promise to cool it off a bit, we couldn’t resist the opulence of the NR X5Ms.

It was originally a BMW X5M, one of the crazily fast SUVs of our time. There’s just no serious point in owning that car but thankfully, there’s plenty of non-serious ones.

With the Tuningwerk version, that special character is becoming even more obvious as it is now a completely crazy proposition.

To that respect the Tuningwerk NR X5Ms really is the sort of vehicle that needs a straight jacket.

If the regular X5 was never an off-road car and the X5 M took that road use only even further, the NR X5Ms almost feels as if you should only drive it on a track.

BMW X5 Tuningwerk NR X5Ms
BMW X5 Tuningwerk NR X5Ms

The 4.4 liter twin-turbocharged engine comes with two levels of tuning. There’s a 650 horsepower Technical Control Board approved version or an all out 740 horsepower option.

Each of them brings along new other numbers, thus you can have 590 or 774 lb-ft of torque and a 0 to 62 figure of 3.3 or 4.1 seconds.

The top speed figure of the Tuningwerk NR X5Ms is also variable but not because of the choice in power. It’s the tires that can limit you to 186 or 211 (!) mph.

BMW X5 Tuningwerk NR X5Ms
BMW X5 Tuningwerk NR X5Ms

Imagine that, driving something the likes of a Lamborghini flat out on the Autobahn and being overtaken by a huge lumbering SUV.

It may have Tuningwerk written on the back but let’s face it, it’s still an X5. One of the craziest cars around but it’s certainly the sort of pleasure we’d all like to experience at a point in life.

It’s not an over the top childishly drawn body kit that Tuningwerk is offering but it’s certainly less grown up than Alpina’s proposal.

In fact, apart from the vent in the side skirts I reckon Tuningwerk have got the looks spot on with the NR6M. You get a revised front bumper and a nice diffuser at the back.

The NR6M also brings the BMW 6 Series a new set of alloy wheels that mix a sporty design with an elegant presence. Which perfect given how they’ve been fitted to a 6 series.

Under the bonnet, the 4.4 liter V8 twin-turbocharged engine receives a bit of a makeover. It’s such a bit of a makeover that the output has grown to 708 horsepower and 774 lb-ft of torque.

Thanks to that boost and new tires, acceleration from 0 to 62 takes a mere 3.4 seconds and the top speed figure is slightly higher than the standard 155 mph. It’s now 217 mph.

All of this amazing performance is available in a convertible. That should be quite the hairy ride. In order to make sure you’re prepared for it, Tuningwerk offer a special handover with training program as an option.

Tuningwerk NR6M BMW 6 Series

You could do that, or simply rely on the carbon ceramic brakes to get you out of some major trouble.

The Tuningwerk NR Z4s is something of great idealism; it retains the relatively discrete look of the BMW Z4 yet it’s dripping the menace of performance.

Here are the highlights on performance. The 3.0 liter 6 cylinder twin-turbocharged engine now develops 550 horsepower and 553 lb-ft of torque.

The power boost is so consistent that the tuner has had to even do a few modifications to the dual-clutch automatic transmission in the Z4.

Tuningwerk NR Z4s BMW Z4
Tuningwerk NR Z4s BMW Z4

Speaking of modifications, we’re not told exactly what they are to make these changes happen. That’s a little unpleasant but we couldn’t care less because of the figures.

Thanks to all that grunt and mods, acceleration from 0 to 62 takes 3.7 seconds and the top speed now goes beyond 192 mph.

Mind you, in order to achieve these figures you’ll need to run 98 octane fuel. Still, it’s a minor trade off.

Tuningwerk NR Z4s BMW Z4
Tuningwerk NR Z4s BMW Z4

Oh and don’t worry about the rest of the car. The BMW Z4 chassis can easily take the power and the brakes have been upgraded and, if desired, carbon ceramic ones can be fitted.

The German sense of responsibility goes even further as Tuningwerk even offer the option of a direct handover of the NR Z4s which includes driver training.

There’s a whole world of people out there who simply love the standard version of the BMW 1 Series M Coupe. The world is also filled with tuners who think they can improve it.

So far we’ve yet to see any of them ruin the compact sports car and we seriously doubt that the version we see here, created by Tuningwerk is the first one to fail.

The German tuner turned the little coupe into a miniature racer and then they’ve gone on to give it BMW racing colors. How could that possibly go wrong?

Apart from being painted in the traditional BMW war colors, the Tuningwerk 1 Series M Coupe also has Safety Car written on it without any particular competitions being announced.

Maybe they’re working on the paperwork to obtain clear notification of how that might actually become a reality soon.

Tuningwerk BMW 1 Series M Coupe

What is already here is the modified turbochargers, cooling, exhaust and an ECU remap. Put all these together and the 3.0 liter straight six engine now develops 528 horsepower and 453 lb-ft of torque.

That’s so much, we’re not even getting a 0 to 62 time. All we know is that now, the top speed stands at 186 mph. And this is with all of the added downforce.

The latter comes from a revised body kit and a sizable new rear wing. Helping handling even more than that is a set of new tires, light wheels and a brake upgrade.

Finally, the handling and safety cake gets a cherry on top in optional form. If you feel you can do away with the rear seats, Tuningwerk will give you a full rollcage for this lovely little car.

The Germans at Tuningwerk disagree. Either that or they’ve developed a version of the 7 Series that’s aimed at drug dealers and hip hop videos.

They may have painted it black and gone for a “murdered” appeal but this isn’t the sort of car you’d lose in a parking lot. It’s the long wheelbase Li version of the 740i to begin with.

Tuningwerk fitted a new bodykit all around which is made out of carbon fiber and 20 inch alloy wheels wrapped in high-performance Pirelli P-Zero tires. That sound great for performance, not so great for quietness.

BMW 750Li by Tuningwerk
BMW 750Li by Tuningwerk

So far we’re not looking at too much of a BMW 7 Series tune-up I don’t approve of. What the German tuner did to the 4.4 liter twin-turbo V8 is somewhat heart changing.

The standard 407 horsepower is upgraded to either 530 horsepower and 545 lb-ft of torque (in the GT Edition) or 720 horsepower and 803 lb-ft of torque in the RS Edition.

With those sort of figures, the new tires and the slightly lighter body the 0 to 62 figure drops to 4.2 seconds and 3.5 seconds respectively. Much of the same happens with the top speed figure.

BMW 750Li by Tuningwerk
BMW 750Li by Tuningwerk

Having removed the limiter the Tuningwerk BMW 7 Series will hit either 193 mph or 217 mph. I just might forgive the rather edgy exterior for these specs.
